Today we took another look at our answers to the questions from problem 2.3. After we came up with the conclusion that the side length of any square is the “square root” of it’s area, we did a warm-up worksheet to practice what we know.

Then, we looked at right triangles. We learned the vocabulary words “legs” and “hypotenuse” and we tried to find the relationship between the squares coming off of the legs and the square coming off the hypotenuse.

Homework:

  • Finish Problem 3.1
  • ACE(2) #7-19

Challenge Algebra 8

  • Checked our answers from 11.1
  • Took more notes on 11.2

2. New forums on Clayton On-Line Learning (8-South Literacy) –3/24– post to three of them–Due Friday

Mathematics:

Algebra

  • Reviewed the topic from Investigation 1
  • Explored square roots during Investigation 2 Problem 2.1 and 2.2

Homework:

  • Finish Problem 2.2 & 2.3

Science:

We are planning our gardens. Weather permitting, we will be planting outdoors next week. Students do not have to buy their own seeds. I have a good selection available, but students are welcome to buy alternative selections if they wish.

Homework:

Students have chosen their own groups. Upon entering class next time, they need to have diagrammed their garden plot, chosen their seeds, and itemized (with cost) how many of which seeds they would like to “purchase” from me. I recommend considering spacing, which plants may block sun from others, watering (don’t put those that need lots of water near those that need none), and “cost.” You should also think about which plants may need to be started indoors.

What an experience!

Our kiddos had the opportunity to visit a Hindu temple, visit a Mosque, eat lunch at Queeny on a beautiful afternoon, and then visit the Cathedral-Basilica all in one school day.Our students were very well behaved asking great questions at each place of worship. It was a pleasure to spend the day with each one of them. The photos from the trip are uploading now and should be ready on our Team Flickr Page in the next twenty minutes. Check back then to view pictures of the memorable experience.
