Announcements:

1. Don’t forget that Tuesday night is Portfolio Night on 8-South. Remember to invite your parents for a 15-minute time period (between 3:30 and 5:30) and join them in the 8-South area. If your parents cannot come, ask another adult, even an 8-South teacher, to be the audience for your portfolio presentation. We hope to see ALL 8-South students there. This is an important celebration and, yes, there will be food.

2. There will be a Project Peanut Butter meeting on Thursday after school in Ms. Baker’s room.

3. Promotion speaker tryouts are on Thursday after school in Mr. Maesaka’s room. Further information is on the round table in the hallway. Only those who signed up by May 1st may attend.

Mathematics:

Algebra 8 (1-2B)

Today we took a look at recursive and explicit formulas and we figured out a way to calculate the total amount of money earned for Dribbling Dawn over a twenty year career. Next, we studied for our Investigation 1 & 2 quiz Wednesday. We finished by starting on Problem 3.1.

Algebra 8 (5-6B)

Today we checked our yellow and green worksheets, looked over problem 2.1, and discussed scientific notation of numbers less than 1.

Final typed, proofread TKMB essay (minimum five paragraphs) is due on Monday (May 5th)–all classes.

a. “Poetry Is a Juicy T-Bone Steak” forum

b. “What Are you Reading?” forum (Choose just one category for this)

3. Bring two pieces (hard copies) for your portfolio. Due Wednesday (A) or Thursday (B).

Today we started class by checking our yellow and green worksheets. Then we took a look back at problem 1.4 and continued on to problem 2.1 which dealt with starting values different than 1 and the growth factor.
